Restoration Invitation: Disconnected to Reconnected

Much like a bear in winter seeks a deep, restorative slumber, your nervous system can enter into a sort of hibernation, which I call Grounded & Immobilized (see image in Google Drive to review). When you find yourself in this hibernative state, I invite you to begin by asking: does this state seem appropriate or proportionate to me?
Though this may not apply to you, I have noticed myself in a hibernative state when my rest is not deeply restorative. Initially, this feels like being placed in a depressive, bummy time-out corner. Even once I consider how shutting down might be my nervous system’s protective, adaptive response, I still have the waking up to do after shutting down. So how do you inch out of that time-out corner, so you don’t end up stuck there?
In the video, I lead you through some skills for waking up below, and I invite you, as you try them on, to notice and explore these questions:
What do I notice about the energy of my mind and body when I try out this skill?
How might my breath or movement meet or respond to the energy I’m noticing arising?
Does the energy feel as if it is staying at a level of intensity that I can manage? Or would it be kind to consider setting a timer or taking a break?
Do I notice myself aware of my choices? To go slower? To stop altogether? To try something new or different?
