Restoration Invitation: Un-Growing Up

Restoration Invitation is a bite-size invitation to restore your untapped potential and find balance within your mind, body, and soul for deeper more transformative growth and healing

During the transition from classroom to playground, they made us walk in straight lines, and I have a visceral memory of when we were finally allowed to break the line and go play. I was a wild savannah cat pretending to be tame, finally unleashed on my native savannah: the jungle gym, the kickball field, the woods, and the basketball court. As I reflect on my public education experience, I have an emerging awareness of feeling mostly constrained by it.

Tyson Yunkaporta’s work validated some of this experience for me. Yunkaporta describes facets of a holistic indigenous intelligence that includes kinship-mind, story-mind, dreaming-mind, ancestor-mind, and pattern-mind. Being on that playground was one of the few places I recall feeling meaningfully connected to my classmates (kinship-mind). My mates and I were free to share and process life outside of school walls through imaginative play and chat (story-mind and dreaming-mind). I felt connected by our shared experiences, even as we stepped on each others’ toes or lost track of time (ancestor-mind and pattern-mind).

Today’s invitation is to un-grow up a bit. Through movement we’re going to explore our story-mind, letting our body do the talking just to see what unfolds. I hope you’ll follow along with me in the video.

Putting it into practice:

Bounce, sway, rock, and shake with me as we imagine and explore an unwritten story unfolding in the present moment.

Next time: I’m not sure yet to be honest, but I hope you’ll tune in next month anyway. If you missed our previous newsletters check them out here.
